Privacy Policy

Plain-language summary. Not a substitute for legal advice.

What we collect

  • Your email address, and the display name and relationship to Steve that you provide.
  • The content you contribute (memories, photos, quotes, and their details — like dates, locations, tags, and people mentioned).
  • Any notes you send to another member through the archive's reconnecting feature.
  • An optional profile photo, if you choose to add one.

How we use it

  • To operate the archive: to publish your contributions and show who shared them, in the form you chose.
  • To contact you about your account (email verification, password resets, invitations).
  • To help prevent spam and automated abuse during signup.

Who else sees it

  • The archive may be indexed by search engines and appear in public search results.
  • We use trusted third-party service providers to run the site (hosting, storage, and email delivery). They process data on our behalf and don't use it for their own purposes.

Reconnecting

This feature is entirely optional, and nothing here happens unless you turn it on.

  • If you mark yourself "open to reconnecting," other signed-in members can send you a note through the archive. Your email address is never shown to them.
  • We deliver their note to you by email, with the sender's address as the reply-to. If you reply, your address becomes visible to them — that choice is always yours, and ignoring a note shares nothing.
  • If you send a note, the details from your public page (name, relationship to Steve, how you knew him) and your email address are shared with the person you're writing to.
  • We keep a copy of notes sent through the archive so we can look into it if a note is reported as misuse.
  • You can stop receiving notes at any time by unchecking "open to reconnecting" in your account settings.

Your choices

  • You can edit or permanently delete your own contributions at any time.
  • You can choose how your name appears (full name, first name + last initial, initials, or a custom name).
  • A profile photo is optional and public. You can replace or remove it at any time in your account settings, and the archive's stewards may remove one that isn't appropriate. Location data embedded by your camera is stripped before the photo is stored.

Removal requests

If content about you appears here, you can ask us to remove it using the Report option on the content (choose "Privacy concern"), or by emailing us (see Contact below).

Children

Registration is limited to adults (18 or older).

Data retention

Content stays in the archive as long as the site is active, unless you delete it yourself or ask us to remove it. If the archive is placed into preservation ("archive") mode, existing content remains viewable but new contributions and edits pause.
