Sending condolences to the Almaas family and all those who knew and loved Steve. We had many fun times on Ludlow Street and his memory will live on in the many people he touched with his music and generosity of spirit.

I met Steve when Keith and I came to the city in1981. Steve, Alex and I were servers at Spring St Bar & Grill & became great friends. Keith sublet Steve's studio aka 'The Clubhouse" on East 5th Street for awhile. Steve first dubbed Keith "Mr. Keith" -- a moniker that stayed with Keith his whole life. We had our first Thanksgiving in NYC with Steve and Alex when Keith and I didn't have 2 nickels.. When we finished eating, Steve took the turkey out to the homeless in the East Village.
